I’ve been insanely lax and haven’t posted anything for the last week. Call it a total shut down of any sort of motivation. I’ve been going to work and coming home and watching Bleach, one of those funny anime shows that I enjoy so much.

Every so often, I just lose the ability to be productive. I suppose that’s not uncommon, but it’s been so bad the last week or so that I actually took the day off work today specifically to catch up on all the things I’ve lost focus on.

I’m currently working on Rational Expressions and Equations, and feeling like a complete idiot. Someone buzzed my door, and it turned out to be UPS delivering the Nada Surf vinyl box set I had pre-ordered about a month ago from Barsuk Records. It has instantly changed my mood and focus and I feel like some sort of weight has been lifted off me. I know I can beat Rational Expressions and Equations. They are stupid and I will not let them keep me down!

01. My supervisor grabbed our entire team and took us into what the team has dubbed the “Quarantine Room”, and we drank coffee and played a game of “would you rather”. It reminded me that I am very lucky to work where I do with the people I work with. I have an insanely easy job and am generally surround by an amazing and hillarious group of people.

“Uh, hahah… yeah something like that.”

02. Watched a co-worker carry another co-worker around like a baby. That was… odd. Odd and hillarious.

01. I left my house about 10 minutes early for work today. While standing at the bus stop waiting for the bus to arrive, my somewhat crazy older neighbor came up to me and started chatting about how Obama is going to be a dictator, and how he was trying to take a bus somewhere to get a bus schedule but there were too many old people getting on the bus.

02. I lost the game. Again.

I found myself getting snapped at by a co-worker. For no apparent reason. Hours later, I discovered that a family member of theirs had died.

One of the things I hate about myself is the fact that even though I know what was wrong and the person apologized, I’ll still hold this against them. I’m not someone who forgives things easily.

01. Walking out the door this morning, I came across a Border Patrol and Customs vehicle parked outside my apartment building.

You don’t see that every day.

02. I spent most of the day at work with a horrible headache, which made it nearly impossible to focus on work. But around 6:30, a conversation with my co-workers made me laugh so much that it seemed to take all the pain away. Sometimes laughter really is the best medicine.

Today is a day filled of chores and learning. I was contemplating reserving a Zipcar and going to see my mother on Thanksgiving, but I can never full commit to things like that. I’ve been thinking about her a bit lately, so I decided it would be a good idea to call and check in on her. Apparently she was asleep, and didn’t really have much to say, but the surprise and happiness in her voice was really enough.

She reminded me that my aunt’s birthday is next week. I should probably send her a card. I’ve always been a bit afraid, a bit intimidated by her, but I know that if she hadn’t been around when I was small there are times where I may not have eaten or had clothes for school or a Happy Christmas ever. She is a good woman, and I’ve never really given her any credit for the things she has done for me.

…was the first of many cards I plan on sending to my grandmother. I forgot to take a picture of it, documenting that I did it, but I completely forgot. It was basic, just a “thinking of you” card that I purchased for a buck at Bartells. But I know it will completely surprise her and quite possibly make her day. And that’s the goal – to make someone else’s day.

01. (Day 06) I am a fan of cute animals, and this link just about killed me dead. Honest to goodness, it’s puppies in a box, being all cute and cuddly.

02. (Day 06) Some of the new employees at work came and sat with me to see what I do. This happens every time we get a new group into our department, and the last time it was about two weeks after I joined my group. It always makes me feel really good when people recognize that I’m good at what I do (even when I barely know what I’m doing).

03. (Day 06) One of my co-workers, (who is just on the cusp of being referred to as pal) stuck around for a couple of hours after work, killing time before going to the airport. I got less work done than I would’ve liked, but it was nice to just hang out and chat for a bit.

04. (Day 07) Public transportation is always full of slightly off-kilter people. There were a few homeless people on the bus, and I honestly thought they were going to fight. It reached the point where I started staring out the window and at the ceiling just to not look in their direction.

Today is Saturday, and while for many people that would mean relaxing or shopping or seeing friends, for me it means a math test. I chose to go back to school and get an education, but it really does get lonely sometimes.
